We don't build boats for the marina; we build them for the wild. To ensure your vessel is always ready for the next expedition, "Ownership Hygiene" is essential. This care ensures:
● Xploration Readiness: Consistent maintenance ensures that whether you’re heading out tomorrow or after a long winter, your boat is safe, airtight, and ready to hit the water the moment adventure calls.
● Pride of the Fleet: An explorer is only as good as their gear. Keeping the fabric free of salt-rot and stains ensures your XPLORE CAT looks as formidable in a decade as it did on its first launch.
● Generational Adventure: By protecting the integrity of the PVC today, you ensure this vessel remains the family’s go-to adventure craft for the next generation of explorers.

Post-Expedition Hygiene (The "Saltwater Rule")
Salt is the primary enemy of long-range longevity. It is a desiccant that draws moisture out of materials and leaves behind abrasive crystals that wear down fabric during transport.
● The Fresh Water Rinse: After every adventure in saltwater, the boat must be rinsed thoroughly with fresh water.
● Detailing the "Hot Spots": Pay special attention to the transom joins and floor channels. Sand and grit trapped here acts like sandpaper during transport; removing it is the single best thing you can do to prevent fabric thinning over many years of exploration.
● Valve Care & Secondary Seals: * Periodically rinse closed valves with fresh water to ensure the valve remains free of grit.
○ The Valve Cover Rule: Always ensure the valve covers are firmly replaced whenever the boat is inflated. These covers act as a critical secondary seal, preventing sand, salt, and debris from entering the internal mechanism. A clean valve is a reliable valve.

The Sand & Grit Protocol: Protecting the PVC SkinWhile the Mehler Valmex® PVC is incredibly tough, sand and salt crystals are essentially microscopic sandpaper. If left in the crevices of your boat during transport or storage, the vibration of travel will cause these crystals to "sand" the fabric, leading to premature wear and potential "pin-hole" leaks.
● The "Clean Hands" Valve Rule: Before connecting your pump or replacing a valve cap, ensure there is no sand on the valve seat or inside the cap. A single grain of sand can prevent the valve from seating perfectly, leading to a frustrating slow leak.
● Under-Seat Maintenance: Salt and sand can build up in the aluminium seat tracks. A quick spray of fresh water here ensures your seats continue to slide smoothly and don’t become "locked" by salt-corrosion.
● Boots Off (Optional but Recommended): Where possible, encourage passengers to rinse their feet or "reef shoes" before stepping onto the Air Deck. This keeps the abrasive grit out of the boat from the start.

Advanced UV & Adventure Protection
The Australian sun is the harshest element an explorer faces.
● The "Basecamp" Policy: To ensure your boat is ready for many years of service, it should spend its "down-time" out of the sun. If your boat is stored on a davit or trailer between expeditions, it must be protected by a high-quality, breathable UV cover.
● Approved Expedition Cleaners: Treat the PVC like your own skin. Use only mild soap or specialized PVC cleaners. Never use bleach, acetone, or silicone-based "protectants," as these can make the fabric brittle and compromise the structural integrity of your craft.

Storage & Pest Prevention (The Explorer’s Standard)
● The "Bone Dry" Standard: Storing a boat while damp creates mold and mildew. While mold is cosmetic, it degrades the professional look of your gear. Ensure the boat is 100% dry before folding for storage.
● Vermin Defense: Rodents are attracted to the organic scents of past adventures (fish scales, bait, or food). Before long-term storage, deep clean the boat with mild soap or PVC cleaner. Store the boat in its bag, elevated off the ground, to ensure no uninvited guests cut your boat's journey short.

Pressure Management for Long-Term Seam Health
● The Expansion Rule: On hot days at the ramp or on the beach, air expands. If the boat is left fully inflated in the sun, the internal pressure can stress the seams.
● "Burping" the Boat: If leaving the boat in the sun between launches, bleed off a small amount of air to allow for expansion. This simple habit protects the welded seams from fatigue, keeping them airtight for many years to come.
● We recommend keeping the boat in the shade where possible, if the boat is to be left in the hot sun just vent out a good amount of air (about 1 PSI worth) you can always top back up before the next use
